It’s My Binder and I’ll Cry If I Want To

I bet you expected a post out of me last night, right????  It was supposed to be about the killer savings I got from Shaws, but alas it was not meant to be.  AND the reason I didn’t post last night to tell you about my epic failure was because I was so down that I didn’t want to bring the rest of the internet down with me.
It started like this……. I ordered a TON of coupons for this week’s Shaw’s sale. And you know me, when I say a lot I really mean a lot.  I knew I was taking a risk by ordering them late in the game, but I figured that the odds were in my favor that they would make it in time.
Tuesday’s mail came, no coupons. Wednesday’s mail brought two pieces of junk mail, but no coupons. Thursday’s mail came and the only coupons that arrived were the Progresso and none of the cake mix which is what I really needed to make a serious profit from this sale.  I wanted to kick the mailbox, but my neighbors were out and I didn’t want to give them anything to talk about. You know how neighbors are.
All that to say that I lost the coupon game this time around and it’s my own fault for not ordering my coupons when I should have.  So the donation I wanted to make to the food bank won’t be as impressive as I had hoped, but like I always say……. a very little bit helps.
Oh, and just to add to my bad day yesterday, this is the site that greeted me in the soup aisle when I finally got my grumpy butt to Shaws:

What was I expecting??? It was the last day of the sale for Pete’s sake!

Couponing is often times a gamble. I spent about $10.00 on the coupons that didn’t come in time. I did however make enough profit from this sale to absorb that loss. Win some, lose some as they say.  Time to move on to the next sale………

  1. My heart dropped when I read the title of this post because I thought you were going to say your binder was lost, or stolen!

I’m sorry your coupons didn’t arrive in time, but I’m sure you’ll be ready for the next sale. If it makes you feel any better, I did great the past two weeks, and will have a hefty donation for my food bank next week. Including the Capri Suns I bought last week I spent $121.26 oop (since I didn’t try rolling my cats from the Capri Sun), but I have $143 in cats remaining, which means I made $21.74.

  2. Aww….*sniff, sniff* I hate when that happens, but like you said, you were STILL able to make a donation to the food pantry and THAT is AWESOME!! ;0)
It’s almost another week, which means there is another sale right around the corner! Chin up…

Well, I see you have traded in your superwoman cape. Perhaps some lucky stiff gets to wear it for a while. You still did great! Thanks for sharing!!

  4. You still did pretty well. I never score that much of anything, as I just am not willing to go to the store every day. And I would have to, since my Kroger only takes 3 like coupons. But I am not complaining. I get enough.

Just nothing like you do. :-)

Hope another good cake mix sale comes along soon for you!

This post made me realize that it just doesn’t happen to ME!! I think we have learned not to wait so long to order them. All in all I think your donation is FAB, every little bit help those in need.

    Next week will be better!

  6. I didn’t think the post office could get any slower. I mailed a package priority mail to VA Tuesday-not received yet. One was mailed to me Wedesday-not here. If you want coupons for a sale, better order a week in advance. So frustrating-Mine wasn’t coupons for the sale, but I thought priority meant something.

At Jewel, they will accept coupons after you have made your purchase. You have a higher OOP but then you get your money back when you turn all the q’s in.

Doesn’t Shaws let you do that? I know you get doubles so that might be a nightmare.

  8. Been there , done that ! I hate it when my coupons dont come on time too ;)
Sorry to hear you missed a good deal, I bet there will be a better one coming up soon (fingers crossed).

When I read the title of your post, I thought maybe your binder was kidnapped or lost….pheww.. Glad to know all is well. LOL

I’ve gone to Shaw’s after I bought something and forgot to give them the coupon and they’ve always accepted them. Not sure that would work with the cat. deals though.

Sorry it didn’t work out but I am sure you’ll get in on the next deal. And for sure a trip to Greece was worth one missed deal!

  10. Just this week, my chili coupons took 3 DAYS to arrive when I could have walked to the guys house and back to personally pick them up before they got here!lol
And when they did FINALLY arrive, guess who drives off to the store and leaves them on her desk at home?
    Yep!….ack!!
It’s been one of those weeks.
    I so feel your pain.

There’s always the next deal to augment that FB donation…..
    chin up and all that!

  11. Best Moments- OMG I would certainly cry over losing my binder. It’s never happened in all these years. I shudder to even think about it!! Congrats on your savings! That is awesome! Don’t you just love a good catalina deal that acutally works??!!

Sonya- You are so right. There is always another deal. I’ll get over it. It will just take a few days!! LOL!

Deb- Yup, I threw it to the side of the road this week. Now I have to pick it up and take it to the dry cleaners. :) I’m glad to see other locals scoring the deals though. I can live vicariously through them!

Frances- I only shopped twice this week, but to be honest I would’ve been there every day if I had the coupons. A limit of 3 per day??? Uggh. That is pretty severe. I always heard that Kroger was so good to couponers. Not so much??

Anonymous- Yeah, lesson learned. Always be alert as to what’s going on in your local stores. I had dreams of shrimp and steak in my freezer with the overages. Sigh.

Debbie- I have noticed things taking longer lately too. Especially packages. I expect that in the winter, but not now for pete’s sake!

Caroline- No, we don’t work that way which is odd since the stores are related. I can’t complain about the register end of it because this sale would have been perfect if I had my game on. There were very few reports of glitches at the register this time around. I’m glad you did well!!

Estera- Thankfully no it wasn’t my binder, so it certainly could have been worse. If I ever lost my binder I would totally flip. It takes so much work to maintain that pink beast!!

Anonymous- Yes the trip was certainly worth it, but it is hard to get back into the swing of things after an extended break!!

Slugmama- Makes you want to go postal doesn’t it? LOL! I have to remind myself that there is always another killer deal around the corner. Too bad the Target candle deal isn’t as exciting this year as last. I was soooo looking forward to that!
