My Not Deadiversary

At 6:00 pm today it will be the one year anniversary of the car accident. And to catch up the new TCG readers, it was the day that I was hit by a car while walking and nearly killed.

I spent the last few days thinking about what I wanted to say in this post. But I think I’ve already said everything there is to say on the subject.

So instead of being all serious and emotional, I choose to keep this short.

The picture you see above is one that my friend Christy took while at BlogHer last year. I so desperately wanted to go to that conference, but was still hospital bound at that point.

So, my friends printed a picture of me, mounted me on a stick and dragged me around BlogHer. Posing me in some questionable places I can’t even post here.

Friends with a sense of humor. Gotta love them.

And I think that’s what carried me through this past year. Friends and family who stuck by me in my darkest hour.

From Cindy driving me to every single doctor’s appointment, to Kim taking care of my children when things got hairy.

From family staying with me while I was bed ridden, to readers burying my hospital bed in mail.

Nurses and doctors repairing and encouraging me.

God healing me.

Love.

Thank you all for this past year. I couldn’t have done it without you. You’ve blessed me in ways that I can’t repay.

But I endeavor to try to pay it forward, however I can, for the rest of the days of my life.

Congratulations Melanie on achieving your first ‘Not Deadiversary!’ I hadn’t heard that phrase before and I think it is quite appropriate way of looking back on the trauma of that day, the ordeal of multiple surgeries and then the prolonged healing process with all the physical therapy. I’m sure you are still not 100% recovered but we ‘readers’ all waited anxiously for your next step, literally!, and your progress ahead of the doctor’s predictions. You’ve come a long way girl! Keep healing and keep paying it forward as you so lovingly do! I hope you do something special for yourself today! Celebrate!
