A Peek Into My Cart

Oh no she didn’t! Oh yeah, she did…

Ok, so I grappled for weeks over this one. Even though this blog is no longer “a coupon blog”, it’s still fun to see what people buy and actually eat, right? I mean, it’s like being a voyeur minus the nudity.

We can’t start getting naked in the blogosphere, right? Right. So the next best thing is being able to see what I’m buying. So it’s back. Maybe not every week, but I’m going to show you what I’m buying when I feel up to it. I feel up to it today.

Ok, so let’s start with last week…

Junk food. Unadulterated crap for our trip to Vermont. Not an iota of chlorophyll in the cart. No shopping from the perimeter of the store. Just the center aisles. I was mom of the week. Maybe even mom of the year. Buying Jiffy Pop makes my minion happy.

This week was back to reality. My first stop was Market Basket to stock up on affordable produce. Now that a Market Basket has opened close to my home, this is where I buy most of my produce.

Next stop, Stop&Shop. I love S&S for their gas points program. And this week  Del Monte and Herbal Essence hair products are netting me cheap gas. Also, grapes are an impressive .88 per pound, which is pretty sweet.

The Flat Out Wraps are a big hit in this house, and since they are buy one get one free this week at S&S, we are stocking up.

I’ve yet to hit the drugstores, but I plan to early this week. I’m none too impressed with Rite Aid’s idiotic choice to wipe out paper Up+ Rewards. They are making their policies more and more couponer unfriendly. It makes me not want to shop there anymore.

And that is why most of my dollars go to CVS. Out of all the drugstores, I find CVS to be the most reasonable. For that, I’ll go out of my way to shop their sales and use my coupons on their products.

Ok, so the next picture I want to show you has nothing to do with shopping, but it does make me happy. So, I thought I’d share it with you.

When I did my walk today I saw the most beautiful rainbow I’ve seen in like, forever. It was so lovely that all the walkers and fishermen were standing there with their cell phones out, snapping pictures like their firstborn was taking their first steps. A vision of beauty for sure.

It made me smile. A big happy dimple producing smile.

How about you? What’s making you smile this weekend? Are you happy to see the “peek in my cart” posts back again? What bargains are you after this week?

  1. Melanie, I’m glad we still get a peek in your cart.
I, too, was frustrated about the UP rewards being loaded to our cards, but I saw on Houndingwuthfrugalsuz, you can call customer service and opt out of them loading. First day they auto loaded. Then I called and opted out. Next trip auto deducted what was loaded, but printed out new ups I earned. I find Cvs to be my easiest couponing drug store, then RA, then Walgreens.

    • That is so good to know! What I don’t like about the card loaded Ups+ is that you have to wait until the next day to use them. What a pain in the butt! I just feel like both RA and Wags makes you jump through hoops in order to use coupons or redeem rewards. The Wags RR and RA Ups+ both expire in two weeks while CVS allows so much more time. Very frustrating! CVS is my favorite. SO much less stress!

  2. Just call customer service and you can still have them print your UP’s. I like having the paper version so Iam in control. The fact you can’t use them until 6am the next doesn’t affect me since I don’t do huge trips. Wish we had CVS here in the Pacific NW!

  3. I love your What’s in my Cart posts! Thanks for bringing them back.

  4. Melanie – I always enjoy your peek into my cart posts/ After all, grocert shopping is a big part of our life..
    Please continue them.
What a beautiful picture of the rainbows.!! Amazing..
    take Care.

  5. I like it when you post “What’s in my cart?”, because I live near you and it gives me a chance to see what my local stores have to offer.
I am fed up with RA, and probably will not shop there any more than I absolutely have to. I have to do this week because I have to get my shingles shot, but probably won’t buy anything unless they have an amazing sale, and even then I’ll ask to get hard copies of my Ups+ rewards.
Did you notice in your picture of the rainbow that there was a very faint one above it on the right? It is not unusual to see 2 rainbows at the same time. Well, actually it might be. Great pic.

  6. I love the peek into my cart posts. This was what I thought I would miss most with the switch. Thanks for bringing them back. Love the rainbow!

  7. I was hoping you’d continue these “A peek n my cart” posts and here it was! Awesome! Please, continue to post them, I really enjoy them.

    • I plan to. I’d like to do it once a week, but it depends on how interesting the shopping week is. You know how it goes. Sometimes there’s nothing to write home about when it comes to sales.

  8. I enjoy these posts as well!!

  9. Absolutely!!!! I love these posts and I’m glad to see they will pop up now and again!

  10. yyyyyyyeeeeaaa, a peek at my cart is back. Yes, I like it! thank you! Love the rainbow, sooo perfect

  11. i love seeing your cart pics. they give me good ideas for my family. that is really a gorgeous picture of the rainbow and you look so great and happy :)

  12. I love peek in my cart! I missed the gas deals write ups for this week in forum land but when i peek the only thing i would used was the oatmeal. Hoping my store finally has it on the shelves. With three under 4(almost 5) i have to stop chasing everything, no more super couponing for me. If we don’t use it, i don’t buy it. Glad to see tyson makes dino nuggets, thats on my list for today.
I actually am leaving the ups on my card since i earn so few. I tend to forget them or have been sending dh there for things(and forget to give them to him) If they are on my card i’m more apt to spend them. I love the pharm staff at our ra so we go there frequently(dh has 2 mth rxs) But if this was last year i would be opting out.

    • Oh boy do I hear you Sarah. I’ve cut back on chasing deals myself. It has to be stuff we actually use now. I don’t have the energy anymore to go after it all. Just the stuff that will make a difference in our budget.

  13. Jen from Quincy says:

I love seeing what’s in your cart!

  14. I love looking in your cart! :)

Great deal ideas and meal ideas. Please don’t stop with these posts.

  15. Melanie, I was wondering if there are farmer’s markets in your area? Often the produce is cheaper and has not been shipped many miles. Or frozen until it is put out. It would seem that would be the better option, it is in my area at least.

    • Yes, but they are very expensive. I was just recently informed by a reader that there is a more affordable one about 35 minutes from my home. I still have to check that one out. Otherwise, farmer’s markets in my region are like luxury shopping.

  16. what a gorgeous rainbow!!!

  17. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you, I love these posts. :)

  18. I went to Wags and got the free Suave shampoo deal. I rarely shop the grocery stores for much, I usually hit the farmer’s market and drugstores and of course Target. You have inspired me to go back to Vons and Savemart to see what they have going on.

    • That shampoo deal is pretty awesome. I’ve been stocking up myself. Recently we ran out of shampoo and I was shocked. That’s not something that usually happens around here, lol. I hope you find some deals at Vons or Savemart. :)

  19. I am so with you Mel, on Rite Aid. They had such a good thing going. If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it. But that’s okay, it cuts down on my choices of drug stores and it’s less pressure. To be honest CVS has always been my first love as far as drug stores go anyway. I’ve shopped there since I was in high school (for almost 3 decades!).

So Rite Aid just made it easier to stick with CVS. CVS has been making it easier to shop and coupon there since they’ve been rolling out a lot of store coupons and emailing 25% & 30% coupons.

I was able to get a good deal on candy for the troops this weekend at CVS and Zantac with an ECB was a good deal as well.

    • Did you get the clearance candy at CVS? I got a bunch that I’m going to use as pinata fillers. Yeah, Rite Aid is going downhill. I’m sure they were losing money from the couponers, but they always have too many programs going on. They need to simplify and do one program right. They could learn a thing or two from CVS.

  20. I love the peek in the cart…so glad it is back!!!!!

  21. LOL! I actually stand in line peeking into other carts. It’s always fun to see who coupons and who doesn’t. What new items someone else may have found, etc.

Gorgeous rainbows. The MB in your neck of the woods is fantastic. So glad they are expanding. Can’t beat their dairy prices.

I only shop CVS now too. It’s so much easier and straightforward. Less hoops to jump through. They are very kind to their customers about ECB’s. :)

  22. Love what’s in your cart and love your smile! Brightened my day, thanks!

  23. I love peeking in your cart, and the choice of junk food is top notch. I always peer at the people in front of me in line, I think it would be neat to be a checkout worker just to get to know people through purchases:)

  24. I also love the A Peek Into My Cart posts and I’m glad that you brought them back. I’m sure your four kids had a marvelous time consuming all the junk food on the trip to and from VT. It seems that a lot of us readers are glad that you are bringing this particular post back occasionally. I love the double rainbow shot with the water underneath, beautiful. You look very happy in your pic too, nice self portrait!
