A New Toy

DeskSo even though I told you I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions, I did mention that I’m all for change. Sustainable change, that is. And my latest change is moving my workout indoors. I’ve been freezing my butt off walking/running in icy gale force winds lately and I decided that if I wanted to keep the flesh that’s covering my body in tact, I might want to invest in a new treadmill.

You can see my new piece of equipment above. (smack dab in the middle of the cookies and crackers, perfect) I went with a desk/treadmill combo because I spend way too much time on the computer. Seriously, way too much time. Blogging and social media in general can be very sedentary. A treadmill desk was just what I needed to keep my fanny moving. I love it mucho.

I was worried that I wouldn’t be coordinated enough to work and walk at the same time, but I quickly found out that it was a cinch. As long as I walk 2mph or so, I can type and walk no problem.

Matter of fact, I did 8.5 miles on it today. My goal was ten miles but I forgot that I promised myself a free weights workout which cut my treadmill time short. 8.5 miles is still pretty dang respectable, if I do say so myself.

Special K Popcorn ChipsIn related healthy news, I stumbled across these Special K Popcorn Chips at the grocery store this week. (part of the gas points deals) And I have to tell you, I really like them. Perfect for munching on while watching Downton Abbey. Speaking of Downton Abbey, I will never forgive them for killing my Matthew off. Never.

MelanieAnd because you haven’t seen my smiling face lately, here you go. I’m turning 44 this week and I got a new do to make myself feel better about my impending old age. Notice that I’m embracing the curls. Another change I’m trying to make now that my hair is growing longer.

That’s about all that’s new on my side of the computer screen. How are things on your side? Anything new and exciting?

Good evening Melanie! That is quite the new toy indeed! I’m proud of you working out while you work at your new treadmill desk combo. Actually I am a bit jealous since I have to get my workout in before I go to work. I haven’t tried the chips you mention but I’ll do just about anything for a good gas points deal! You look fabulous in your 30 14 pic!! You see, we can all be in our 30s!!

    • Those chips are something like .50 a box after you figure in the points value. I’ll be buying more before the sale ends. Yummy. I wish I was in my 30′s. Those days are long gone I’m afraid. I’m really having a hard time accepting 44. Much harder than 40 even. Ugh.

  2. You’re awesome Melanie! Age is just a number. God has given you 44 years so far and may you be blessed with many more to come!:) Seeing a new post from you today brightened my evening! Thank you Melanie. Don’t ever stop being YOU! :)

    • Thank you for that Katie. And yes, I need to constantly remind myself that another year is another gift. Why is that so very hard to keep in perspective? It should go without saying. I need to get my head examined.

  3. Happy birthday to you Melanie! May you have a wonderful day and an even better year ahead! xx

  4. Mel, you look gorgeous…never would guess your age to be 44.

    Happy birthday…and many, many more!

Glad to see you smiling :)

  5. They didn’t want to kill Mathew- he quit! :)

    • I know, I know, lol. I just wish they got rid of him less violently. I’m not a fan of killing people off via car accidents, go figure. :)

  6. That looks just like the one I have arriving next week – is it a Lifespan? I’m so glad to hear that it’s a cinch to walk and type. I’ve watched people using them and figured it wouldn’t be too distracting to walk and type, but then a very fit friend said she thought she’d kill herself trying to do that, so I’ve been second guessing my decision. I work from a home office and sit most of the day – not good. I’m 58, but will be working another 2 or 3 years so decided to make the switch.

Happy Birthday! Love the curls, says the gal with the stick straight hair…

    • Yes, it is a Lifespan and I LOVE it. Seriously, I did ten miles today and it wasn’t at all boring. So glad I have this. And no, getting the hang of working and walking won’t be an issue. It’s a cinch. Thank you for the compliment. :)

  7. Love the treadmill desk thingy!! And the new hairdo! :-)

  8. I NEED a treadmill like that! I love it! oh and t hose Special K Popcorn Chips……… I just ate a handful haha pretty good

    • All of us bloggers need one Angie, lol. Such a sedate job. It feels good to move and work. And the miles go by without me even realizing it.

  9. Happy Birthday week!! :)

Melanie, you can’t be mad at the writers! Lol. Dan Stevens (Matthew) asked to leave and so they had to write him off. I miss him terribly too!

    • I hear ya Tami. I just wish they didn’t do it via a car accident. Blah. And is it bad that I miss a fictional character? He was adorable.

  10. I, too, didn’t realize our bdays were so close. Happy Birthday!

And shush already with the Botox. You look fantastic.

  11. Happy Birthday Melanie! You look fabulous!!! love the idea of the treadmill desk. i am in ohio, i HATE the cold and snow and i often curse my grandparents for settling here. it is hard enough for me to walk the 2 dogs in the summer, so during the winter, they just get chained out there long enough to do their business–quickly! i watch DA too and have fallen in love with the show Sherlock that followed it last night. take care and have a super great week!

  12. You look amazing as always. Loving the hair! I am spending the day today catching up on blogs. Snow day here in Virginia.
