This summer we had a lot of people stop by to visit. I expect there will be quite a few more before the summer is over. My guest bathroom is not large, and I keep it designed simply because it’s used a lot by children. And you know how kids are in the bathroom. Messy.
So, when I was asked to participate in a do it yourself campaign to spruce up my bathroom a bit, I was up for the challenge. The spruce up is sponsored by Kleenex Hand Towels, which works out well because we use that product anyway.
I was also told that the do it yourself project could be as simple as I’d like it to be. And this is a good thing because I’m not particularly crafty.

I figured I’d add just a few simple pieces to my bathroom to give it a little more visual appeal. Also, I grabbed a basket out of my basement and a piece of a paper shopping bag that had red and white in it. I may not be Martha Stewart, but I know how to use scissors.
Out of this I created a simple sleeve that I taped around the basket with Scotch tape. Gotta love tape.
Not too bad for a non-crafty girl. Don’t you think? Sometimes just a simple change does the trick.

My bathroom already has a patriotic feel to it with the red, white and blue towels and the soap dispenser. I also added a little table where I can stack extra rolls of toilet paper, hand towels, and other bathroom supplies. Because with four kids, the bathroom has got to be stocked at all times.
When giving your bathroom a facelift, you can make a big difference with some small cosmetic changes:
- Switch out your old hand towels with something new and colorful. You don’t need to replace the bath towels if you find new hand towels with similar colors.
- Add a small table for holding essentials and a decoration or two. Yard sales are a great place to pick up pieces such as this.
- A new shower curtain perks up a tired looking bathroom lickety split. Watch Target clearance end caps for sale curtains.
- Add a plant. Plastic ones are just fine. It’s a bathroom after all.
